A group of villagers from Kumareddiyarpuram village (carrying misinformation), raised protests
24.03.2018
Protest gathered momentum due to myths floated in social media (around 15000 protestors assembled)

CTO was rejected by the TNPCB citing few observations (owing to public unrest / anxiety) & asking to seek remedy through Appellate
14.04.2018
Appeal was filed in Appellate Authority against TNPCB’s refusal of renewal of Consent to Operate

District Collector imposed ban for any protest near Collector office & Sterlite under section 144
22.05.2018
Anti-Sterlite protesters violated 144 zone, entered into collector office campus & colony, burnt vehicles/attacked police. 13 people lost lives on open fire

High Court of Madras-Madurai bench passed interim order to stop expansion activities
